TalkTalk sparks new broadband price war 9:56AM, Monday 2nd July 2007
TalkTalk is cranking up the broadband price war once again with the launch of a new all-inclusive package that costs £5.89 a month, excluding line rental.

The Talk2 International call plan includes up to 8Mbit/sec broadband, unlimited evening and weekend calls in the UK and free international landline calls to 36 countries. The package costs a total of £16.39 per month, with the £10.50 line rental included.

There are, naturally, a couple of caveats: customers must sign up to an 18-month contract and pay a £29.99 connection fee.

The company claims the new tariff offers the best value on the market. "Many customers tell us they don't use their home phone during the day so we've come up with something for people who make landline calls when they get home from work and at the weekends," says TalkTalk's managing director, David Thatcher. "We're committed to providing the best value around; we pioneered free broadband and on landline our position remains clear - if you want to pay less join TalkTalk."

However, recent surveys have shown that while TalkTalk might be cheap, it's not particularly fast. Moneysupermarket.com research claims that 61% of TalkTalk customers on the 8Mbit/sec connection only receive speeds of up to 4Mbit/sec.
