DFI claims readiness for X38 chipset and AM2+

Posted on 7 Jun 2007 at 17:45

DFI claims that it will now be able to have boards available at the launch of both the forthcoming Intel X38 chipset (board pictured), which is expected in August, and AMD's Socket AM2+ , which has no ETA as yet.

DFI admits this year hasn't been great for the company, despite winning the much-coveted PC Pro Best Motherboard Manufacturer award. Product Marketing Manger Andrew Ou Yang, however, was quick to explain the troubles of the last year. The main problem has been 'a lack of talented BIOS writers'. With DFI's reputation staked on overclockability, a board's BIOS is as crucial.

He said that DFI previously had only one BIOS writer but has 'two for now, maybe more in the future.'

As an example of increased productivity, Yang showed us DFI's implementation of Nvidia's Nforce 680i motherboard. He claims its new BIOS team has 'tuned it like a racing car,' and that 'the memory part has been pushed almost to the limit'.

Yang also commented on the recent acquisition of some members of the DFI engineering and design team by Foxconn: 'They weren't key personnel,' he said with a shrug. 'Nothing will change with either the LanParty or Infinity ranges.'
