Intel slims down laptop to 0.7in

Posted on 25 May 2007 at 10:46

Intel has unveiled further details of the 'world's slimmest laptop', which is only marginally thicker than the delectably slim Razr mobile phone.

Dubbed the Intel Mobile Metro Notebook, it boasts a thickness of just 0.7in - a mere quarter inch thicker than the Razr mobile. And at a slither over 1kg, the device isn't going to weigh down the laptop-wielding road warrior.

The laptop boasts a full house of wireless connections, with built-in Wi-Fi, EV-DO and WiMax. There's also an external screen to take advantage of Vista's Sideshow capabilities and a flash-based hard disk.

Intel claims the laptop will have an astonishing battery life of 14 hours, but unless the company also has a new battery technology up its sleeve, that figure can probably be regarded as optimistic.

Equally optimistic are the rumoured launch dates, with some sources suggesting end of this year. An Intel spokesman told PC Pro that it's not even certain the product will make it to market.

The device was first shown at the Intel Developer Forum in April, where it was codenamed the Portfolio Wrap Laptop.
