BT to bring VoIP to the PSP - The Wireless Event 11:28AM, Wednesday 23rd May 2007
BT and Sony are teaming up to provide voice and video calls on the PSP console.

The telecoms giant will provide a version of its 'softphone' for the handheld console, allowing owners to make calls when in range of a wireless hotspot. The service will allow people to make calls and send messages to PCs, landlines and mobile phones. Customers will be provided with a headset to plug into the console.

The service will be available to customers from any ISP, and those using it outside the home will have access to BT's Openzone wireless hotspots. Pricing details haven't been announced ahead of the autumn launch.

'The PSP is an excellent device for both gaming and communications, because of its high quality screen and audio capabilities,' says Steve Andrews, BT chief of mobility and convergence.
