'Every mobile phone user will own a laptop' claims Intel
12:47PM, Wednesday 9th May 2007
An Intel spokesman has claimed that one day, 'virtually every mobile phone user will own a laptop', citing the 'insatiable' demand for the Internet as the reason.
The striking claim was made by Sean Maloney, the chief sales and marketing officer for Intel, during a keynote speech at HP's Mobility Summit in Shanghai.
The keynote otherwise covered the official announcement of the newest version of Centrino and Centrino Pro, formerly codenamed Santa Rosa.
Attendants were also given a preview of Intel's upcoming CPU, codenamed Penryn, a 45nm processor which is fabbed using a mixture of both silicon and hafnium. Although no specifics were available, Maloney claimed that Intel was 'seeing good performance data'.
He also showed a picture of a tiny 45nm CPU codenamed Silverthorne, saying 'we're not just using Moore's law for faster stuff.'
