eBay and Mozilla team up for auctions

eBay and Mozilla have announced a partnership to bring auction services into the Firefox browser.

The results of the technology partnership will be rolled out to Firefox and eBay users in the UK, France and Germany.

Further detail is scant - the companies say more information on the tie-up will be released before the summer.

There are already a range of eBay add-ons for the open-source browser. ShortShip, for example tots up and sorts item and shipping costs, making it easy to see what the final cost comparisons look like.

eBay Ends keeps tabs on the remaining life of items you are bidding on, while eBay Negs instantly brings up negative feedback from sellers. Biet-O-Zilla is a tool for sniping eBay auctions.

'We are excited to work with eBay to improve the online auction experience with Firefox,' said Christopher Beard, VP, marketing and product management, Mozilla. 'Firefox provides a robust platform for integration with leading Web services, which we're pleased to extend through our partnership with eBay.'

'We are thrilled to be working with Mozilla and to explore a great opportunity that benefits both our communities of users,' said Torsten Schuppe, Head of Interactive Marketing, eBay, UK. 'Our work together will help the great community of Firefox users more easily use eBay and stay up to date with their auctions.'

eBay also owns Net calling company Skype, although there is no information on whether these technologies will be integrated into Firefox in any way.
