Adobe to release two versions of Photoshop CS3 5:51AM, Thursday 8th March 2007
Adobe has revealed that it will be launching two versions of Photoshop when it unveils Creative Suite 3 on 27 March.

In addition to the new, long-awaited version of the image editing and manipulation software, Adobe will introduce Photoshop CS3 Extended, a completely new edition designed, in Adobe's words, for cross-media creative professionals to stretch the limits of digital imaging. Photoshop CS3 Extended includes everything in Photoshop CS3 plus a new set of tools for the integration of 3D and motion graphics, image measurement and analysis.

Film and video editors will be able to perform 3D model visualisation and texture editing, paint and clone over multiple video frames while animators will be able to render and incorporate 3D content into 2D compositions. PS3

Extended will also let users create an animation from a series of images - such as time series data - and export it to a variety of formats, including QuickTime, MPEG-4 and Adobe Flash Video.

PS3 Extended is also designed to simplify workflows in architecture, engineering, medicine and science.

Users will be able to extract quantitative and qualitative data from images with measurement and analysis tools, while support for specialised image formats will enable medical professionals and scientists to view, annotate and edit images in their native format. Adobe notes that radiologists will be able to closely monitor a patient's progress over time, scientific researchers will be able to create animations from medical images for presentation purposes and architects to make accurate measurements of objects in their 3D images.

'We never imagined that Photoshop would someday help make major motion pictures, let alone save lives,' said John Loiacono, senior vice president of the Creative Solutions Business Unit at Adobe. 'Whether it's a video producer texture editing the backdrop of a movie or a researcher counting hundreds of cancer cells, diverse industries are already relying on the professional standard in digital imaging.'
