Imation intros water-resistant printing on Blu-ray discs 9:49AM, Friday 23rd February 2007
Imation has introduced what it claims to be the world's first inkjet printable and water-resistant Blu-ray disc.

The single, layer, 25GB BD-R media features Imation's nanoparticle AquaGuard technology that enables the printing of water- and smear-resistant graphics and text onto the disc's 'brilliant white' surface.

'We've designed each side of the disc for professional use,' said James Milligan, general manager, Commercial/OEM Division, Imation. 'The data side features high capacity and scratch resistance. The inkjet printable side allows for creation of custom, water-resistant printed images and text.'

The discs are now shipping to Imation distributors, while Primera is selling them media with its Bravo XR-Blu and Bravo SE Blu Disc Publishers that combine BD disc burning with label printing.

'Adding Imation's AquaGuard surface to Blu-ray disc media is a technology breakthrough,' said Mark Strobel, vice president, Sales and Marketing, Primera Technology.
