BT promises HD for all

Posted on 18 Dec 2006 at 17:29

It's still the biggest ISP in the country, and more subscribers means more money to invest in new services. It's this kind of muscle and scale that will give BT Vision the edge, said Griffiths. 'Content deals are not cheap,' he said. 'The end to end system is complex, it's difficult to get to work, and it's expensive.'

'That's not to say that we wouldn't want to sell through other ISPs,' he added, pointing out the BT Vision deal struck with Vodafone.

Positioned against Sky, BT looks more challenged. Nevertheless, Griffiths is confident. 'For Sky to do HD for all those people, they've got to stomach a 7.5m box swap out,' he said. He said Sky will always dominate its 'high-commitment, high price' market.

BT Vision, though, is targeted at a market that Griffiths believes isn't being served: 'We want to appeal to all people'.
