Samsung frees printers from PCs 5:23PM, Tuesday 21st June 2005
Samsung has launched its first range of photo printers that don't need to be hooked up to a computer.

The SPP 2040 and 2020 use a dye sublimation printing technique that uses heat to transfer ink to the paper, resulting in prints superior to those produced by inkjets.

Connectivity comes courtesy of Bluetooth for wireless, PictBridge for direct connections to imaging devices and a 7-slot memory card reader. There is also a USB interface for connecting to a computer.

The 2040 model boasts a colour LCD display for previews and basic editing tasks.

The devices offers prints at 1min a page, and prints are both water and fade resistant. Both are Mac and Windows compatible.

Terry Dellar, general manager, Facsimile & Printer Division, Samsung, said: 'Users have the option of PC-independent and wireless connectivity from a number of digital devices and the option to edit their photos. The end result is a high quality printed image delivered cost-effectively in a minute.'

The 2020 and 2040 printers are available now and cost £99.99 and £149.99 respectively.
