Recently released for Windows, the new version of Skype is the first to support video calling, a feature that has been available in Apple's iChat AV messaging client since 2003.
The Mac release will happen sometime in the second quarter of 2006 according to the eBay-owned firm's PR company.
Skype has been working with Intel to optimise video calling on machines that use Intel's dual core processors. This includes the new iMacs and MacBooks.
'Through our partnership with Intel we can ensure that Skype performs better than any other Internet calling application and drive widespread business and consumer adoption,' Henry Gomez, general manager of Skype North America, told The Mac Observer.
