Apple has unveiled a completely redesigned iMac, in an amazing new design and featuring an LCD, flat-panel display, SuperDrive and G4 processors for the first time.

The computer itself is housed in a white dome-shaped casing just 10.5 inches in diameter across the base. The display sits at the end of a calibrated metal arm that extends from the top of the base and allows the display to be swivelled around, moved up and down or tilted back and forward.

The three models comprise:

o700MHz G4, 128MB RAM, 40GB hard drive, CD-RW, available March for £1149;

o700MHz G4, 256MB RAM, 40GB hard drive, DVD-ROM/CD-RW 'combo', available February for £1299;

o800MHz G4, 256MB RAM, 60GB hard drive, DVD-R/CD-RW SuperDrive, available January £1599.

All have GeForce2 MX graphics cards with 32MB of VRAM, making the 3D graphics three times faster than previous iMacs. All have five USB ports, two FireWire ports, 100Mbit Ethernet and are AirPort ready.

The top two models also ship with the spherical Apple pro speakers.
