Apple accelerates the iMac 1:48PM, Monday 28th April 2008
Apple has upgraded the Core 2 Duo processors for all four of its iMac models, with the fastest now clocking in at 3.06GHz.

The faster processors include a larger, 6MB L2 cache and all four models have a speedier 1,066MHz front-side bus.

Little else has changed, save additional RAM in two of the configurations, and the prices are as before.

The range now comprises:

• 20in 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo | 1GB RAM | 250GB hard drive | ATI Radeon HD 2400 XT with 128MB memory - £799;

• 20in 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo | 2GB RAM | 320GB hard drive | ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO with 256MB memory - £949;

• 24in 2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo | 2GB RAM | 320GB hard drive | ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO with 256MB memory - £1,149;

• 24in 3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Extreme | 2GB RAM | 500GB hard drive | ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO with 256MB memory - £1,459.

Memory can be upgraded to 4GB and Nvidia's GeForce 8800 GS graphics card with 512MB of video RAM is an option on the 24in models.

All four models have 802.11n Wi-Fi networking, Gigabit Ethernet, three USB 2.0 ports (plus two on the keyboard) and one FireWire 400 and one FireWire 800 port, and a CD- and DVD-burning 8x SuperDrive.
