TIFF flaw opens iPhone and iPod touch file system

A hacker has discovered a flaw in the way that Safari handles TIFF files. Exploiting the flaw enables users to gain full read/write access to the iPhone's and iPod Touch's file system.
thinks the exploit is a welcome discovery - though he warns it should not be attempted by people who do not understand what they are doing.
The vulnerability can be exploited by using the handset's Safari browse to view a specially created TIFF image. The image will cause Safari to crash, but as a consequence the user can get access to the normally hidden files and folders on the device.

Security firm Secunia advises users not to browse untrusted websites nor open untrusted TIFF images.
Secunia adds that the flaw may be related to the libTIFF vulnerabilities discovered last year.
