Skype 2.0 enables free, full-screen video calls with any other Skype users, with incoming video displayed even if the receiver does not have a compatible webcam. Supported cameras include Apple's iSight, built-in or standalone, plus the Philips SPC900NC and Logitech QuickCam Pro 400. An open-source driver for the last two USB webcams - the iSight is supported natively - is available from http://webcam-osx.sourceforge.net.webcam-osx.sourceforge.net.

'Skype's goal is to make Internet calling streamlined and simple for everyone by providing innovative features and an intuitive design,' said Stefan Öberg, director of product management for Skype. 'Our community is made up of both Mac and Windows users. We couldn't be more excited to bring these two groups together, literally face-to-face.'
Skype 2.0 beta requires a G4 800 MHz Mac running OS X 10.3.9 Panther or 10.4.x Tiger and is a free download from skype.com/download/skype/macosx/20beta.html.
The support for PowerPC Macs contradicts a statement by Skype's PR company in February to the effect that Skype 2 would only be compatible with Intel Macs. Spark PR's Tim Cox also said that the software would support video conferencing for up to 10 people.
