Apple investigates iPod working conditions 1:00PM, Wednesday 14th June 2006
Apple has opened an investigation into allegations in the Mail on Sunday about working conditions in iPod factories.

'Apple is committed to ensuring that working conditions in our supply chain are safe, workers are treated with respect and dignity, and manufacturing processes are environmentally responsible,' the company said in a statement.

'We do not tolerate any violations of our supplier code of conduct.'

The Mail on Sunday investigation of a Foxconn-owned plant in China discovered that workers were working 15-hour days for around $50 per month.

It would not be the first time that harsh working conditions had been revealed for component suppliers. Dell, HP and IBM were among those cited by a previous report, with PC workers' conditions failing to match UN standards.
