The company acknowledged reports that when playing video using the Front Row software several apparently random image corruptions appeared, including horizontal lines, ghosting and tearing.
'Apple is aware of this issue and is looking into it,' the company said in an email, adding that anyone with problems should contact its AppleCare support team.

'The problem is most apparent when using Apple's Front Row media browser,' it notes. 'The problem renders Front Row is all but unusable due to constant video tearing, random horizontal lines, ghosting, and other graphical artifacts. The issue is best described as faint and intermittent "patches" of whatever graphics are on the screen appearing in random locations ("tearing"). Aside from the Front Row menu system, these problems also persist when viewing movies or DVDs through the Front Row interface.'
ConsumerMachine adds that the problem does not occur when playing video through the QuickTime Player or DVD player applications and is restricted to a specific OS X build. Since it is clearly software-based it should be quickly and easily patched, perhaps in the 10.4.5 update currently undergoing testing.
