Primera Technology's Bravo XR-Blu Disc Publisher combines Pioneer's new BDR-101A Blu-ray Disc/DVD recorder with full-colour direct-to-disc inkjet printing.

Initially it supports only the single-layer 25GB Blu-ray (BD) discs though a future firmware update will add compatibility with dual-layer 50GB media. Up to 50 discs can be loaded into the device, enabling 2.5TB

of data to be burnt in a single session.

'We're proud to be the first company in the world to offer a professional, automated burn and print disc publishing system based upon Blu-ray disc technology,' said Mark D. Strobel, VP of sales and marketing at Primera. 'The increased capacity of Blu-ray Discs over standard DVD-R media will open up new applications and solutions that until now were impossible due to storage space constraints.'

Currently compatible with Windows 2000 and XP via USB 2.0, the device includes Sonic Solutions software for burning and printing both BD and DVD discs. It has been designed to allow all replenishment of consumables through the front panel so that it can be stored 'almost anywhere' and two units can be stacked vertically to effectively double capacity and throughput. An optional rack mount kit is available for a standard 4U, 19in wide rack.

The Bravo XR-Blu will be introduced in April for just under $6,000.
