In addition to the changes listed by Apple when the update was released, Safari 1.2 includes several under-the-hood improvements, notably to overall speed, detailed in Hyatt's weblog.
Changes that should lead to noticeable speed increases include DHTL and HTTPS improvements and smart page transitioning. According to Hyatt, DHTML performance in v1.2 is 'light years' ahead of v1.1; when objects change size position, for example, Safari will only redraw the affected area. HTTPS pages load more quickly while smart transitioning retains common elements, such as scrollbars, when switching between pages.
Other changes include support for all forms of marquee tags with their behaviour set to match IE for Windows and improvements to CSS, small-caps, :hover and :active and mini form support.
However, there is only passing mention of the major cache problems that have afflicted the browser since launch, and have indeed been mentioned in Hyatt's blog before.
