The announcement of his decision to cross the Atlantic will undoubtedly add fuel to the always smouldering rumours that new Apple products are imminent.
Alternatively, this could mark an attempt to rebuild some bridges to its European customers, following a series of US-centric product announcements: .Mac, iPhoto print ordering and the iTunes Music Store. Although in Apple's defence, both the iPhoto and iTunes decisions were moulded as much by outside influences as by specific Apple strategy. iPhoto print ordering remains unlikely, in fact the service is believed to be losing the company money in the US. iTunes, however, is a different story, with Microsoft's announcement of a Europe-wide online music service putting a great deal of pressure on Apple to match it. That may well be why Jobs is flying in.
Certainly new products seem unlikely - you would expect any such announcement to be made in the US - although there may be minor performance upgrades to existing lines. The wise money will go on a new 15in PowerBook to match the re-styled 12in and 17in models.
The keynote address will kick off at 9am BST on 16 September.
