Flash site fails on Safari
11:50AM, Tuesday 11th March 2003
Macromedia has revamped its Web site, rewriting the whole thing using its Flash technology, only to find that it no longer works in certain Web browsers, Specifically Safari and Opera.
Macromedia has said that it is working with both Apple and Opera to solve the problems.
Macromedia is understandably keen to promote the wider use of Flash, after all it did develop the technology and many of its applications are capable of generating Flash content. As one Internet observer put it, it has to walk the walk, not just talk the talk.
Nonetheless, the decision to rely entirely on Flash will affect usability for anyone on a dial-up Internet connection, regardless of the browser used. Flash sites are notoriously slow to load and navigate and best suited to Web users with broadband connections.
