DV goes direct-to-disc 11:00AM, Monday 20th May 2002
Digital video specialist Datavision has announced the Datavision DV Drive, an ultraportable FireWire hard disk which can be used to capture digital video direct from the camera.

The DV Drive's direct-to-disc storage technology means camcorder footage can be stored directly on to the hard disk without the need for a Mac or video-capture software.
It will work whether the camcorder is in playback or record mode, meaning filmmakers can store their footage as they are shooting.

'Videographers spend a lot of time

capturing digital footage to their computers for editing, which results in potentially lost production time,' explained Tim Liggins, Datavision's managing director. '[Using the DV Drive], when they get back to the studio, they will already have the files they need to begin editing, saving a great deal of time and improving productivity.'

The DV Drive's 20Gb hard disk can hold up to one hour and 40 minutes of video. Its FireWire interface can then be used to connect it to a Mac and the footage can immediately be used in iMovie, Final Cut Pro, or any other DV editing package. When plugged into a Mac, it can be used as a standard external hard drive for portable storage.

The DV Drive includes a built-in rechargeable lithium battery, which can be charged through the FireWire connection.

It is due to ship in mid June, for around £425.
