OS X roadshow wins over PC users 2:54PM, Friday 25th January 2002
Apple's Mac OS X Roadshow got off to a storming start this week. More than 600 Mac users from across the South East, flocked to the two-day event at Olympia. Many attendees said they found out about the show from MacUser, Apple's exclusive media partner for the tour of the UK.

The response from roadshow attendees was overwhelmingly positive, with many offering comments commending Apple and all its roadshow partners for managing to bring the show together. John Stevens, a design department manager, said:'It's been great to get hands on with all the kit. I've been really impressed with the organisation of the whole event.'

Attendees said they appreciated the opportunity to meet software developers and hardware manufacturers, and learn how to ease their migration to OS X. Aside from Apple's new operating system, the star of the show was the new iMac, which visitors got the opportunity to see 'in the flesh' for the first time.

One attendee and MacUser reader summed up the impact the iMac is having on the public. Jason Anderson, a London-based

Web designer, had been using PCs exclusively for 18 years. But when he saw the new iMac running OS X, he placed an order immediately for his first ever Mac. 'When I saw the new iMac I knew I just had to have one. And I've discovered some great stuff here at the roadshow today, like how my migration from Mac to PC doesn't have to be too painful. Using Virtual PC on OS X, I can still run all my old software,' he said.

Donald Kaye, European sales manager at Connectix, Virtual PC's developer, was delighted with the first two days of the roadshow. 'We're really delighted to be here. I've been genuinely surprised by the number of people who are already running OS X. There's been an interesting and wide range of people here, and a surprising number of non-Mac users who've been really excited to see what they can do with a Mac,' he enthused.

Anthony Fulgoni, sales manager for wireless networking specialist Proxim, agreed: 'Its great to meet our customers face to face, and we're getting a really good response to our new products here.'

The roadshow continues throughout the rest of January until the end of February, and takes in a further 8 locations around the UK and Ireland, including Manchester, Dublin, Bristol and Edinburgh. For further details, click here.
