WWDC: Apple shows off multiprocessor Mac
11:46AM, Tuesday 23rd May 2000
In a session on Tuesday morning, Apple executives gave the first demonstration of Mac OS X running on Macs with more than one processor.
The demonstration, given by Apple senior vice president for hardware engineering Jon Rubenstein and vice president of worldwide product marketing Phil Schiller, showed Photoshop tasks running on a dual-processor G4 system at roughly twice the speed of an equivalent single processor machine.
Schiller was at pains to stress that this was a technology demonstration, and not an announcement of a shipping product. However, he did claim that Apple would ship multiprocessor machines 'before next year's WWDC'
