Apple ripe for another record quarter
8:58AM, Friday 18th July 2008
Apple sold more than 2.5 million Macs in the last quarter, according to Gartner figures.
The research firm's estimate is based on its survey of US computer sales, which counted almost 1.4 million Mac purchases in the past three months. US sales average between 45% and 60% of global Mac shipments.
NPD Group believes Mac sales are up 50% on last year, as indeed they were in the first quarter of 2008, which would push them above 25 million. That would tally with the recent evidence that worldwide sales are growing faster than in the US alone.
Whichever is correct, it appears that Mac sales are set for yet another record quarter.
Apple will provide the true picture when it announces its financial results on 21 July.
