TinyURL provides customised URLs
12:42PM, Tuesday 8th July 2008
Popular URL-shortening service TinyURL has added an option for customised addresses.
Users can now pick a suffix to replace the code that TinyURL generates when you submit a long website address for shortening.
TinyURLs are particularly useful where long web addresses can become garbled - in some email clients for example - or take up too much space. They are also widely used in printed publications, where URLs are provided for a reader to type themselves.
The advertising funded service receives around 1.5 billion hits per month and has spawned a number of imitators.
