Apple to supply 10,000 Macs to German firm
9:40AM, Monday 7th July 2008
Germany's largest newspaper publisher has announced that it is to equip its 10,000 employees with Macs over the next five years.
Axel Springer will become Apple's largest European customer, and the second biggest worldwide after Google.
The company's chairman, Mathias Döpfer explained that the decision was taken in part because Macs "are easier to use than all others ... and ... the best looking" but also because the total cost of ownership for Macs will prove to be lower.
The ability to run Windows is also a factor: some users will continue to run the Microsoft OS if necessary.
The company would not say how much the transition would cost.
