Dell adds Dock to Vista
8:58AM, Monday 30th June 2008
Dell is attempting to give the much-maligned Windows Vista a little Apple stardust by installing software similar to the Mac OS X Dock on its latest laptops.
Imaginatively titled Dell Dock, the interface is almost identical in appearance to the OS X Dock and provides much the same functionality. Just to be slightly different, it nominally sits at the top of the screen rather than the bottom, presumably so that it doesn't conflict with Windows' taskbar.
Dell isn't the first company to try and replicate the Mac OS X look on Windows - the free Stardock ObjectDock has been offering a similar interface for quite some time, earning it a place in MacUser stablemate PC Pro's top 50 downloads.
The Dell Dock will be pre-installed on the Studio range of laptops that Dell unveiled last week.
