iTunes update to support iPhone and iPod remote control

Apple is reported to be preparing an update to iTunes that will enable the application to be remotely controlled by an iPhone or iPod touch.
According to the notes accompanying a pre-release version of iTunes 7.7 sent to developers, the software is compatible with "the new Remote application for iPhone or iPod touch to control iTunes playback from anywhere in your home". The application will be a free download from the App Store.
The App Store is iTunes' the new collection of software for the iPhone and iPod touch that will open when the 3G iPhone launches on 11 July.
