Microsoft releases OOXML converters, updates Office 9:14AM, Wednesday 25th June 2008
Microsoft has finally released the finished version of its Open XML Converter, which enables users of Office 2004 and v.X to open files saved in the new, default file formats for Office 2008 and 2007 for Windows.

Open XML File Format Converter for Mac 1.0 can convert Word (.docx), Excel (.xslx) and PowerPoint (.pptx) files

and will also install the additional fonts that are now part of the standard Office installation.

Microsoft recommends that Office 2004 users first install the new 11.5 update to enable Office 2004 to read and write Office documents that are in the Open XML Format once the converter is installed.

For users of the latest version of Microsoft's software suite, the Office 2008 for Mac 12.1.1 Update provides improvements to stability and performance.
