USB dongle promises easy PC installation of OS X 10:31AM, Monday 16th June 2008
Installing OS X on a PC may soon be as simple as inserting a USB dongle and booting from an installation disc.

Typically, "hackintosh" methods of levering the Apple operating system onto non-Apple hardware involve the carrying out of a number of complex steps. But EFiX claims to eliminated all those patches, hacks and file replacements. You simply insert the dongle, boot from the OS X disc and run the installer.

the Mac users have always enjoyed:
unmodified Mac OS X on your computer, safe, easy and fast, exactly the way it should be," the company says.

EFiX plans to release the dongle on 23 June, following some six months of testing during which it claims that there were attempts to "sabotage" the process.

Since the first version of OS X was released in 2001, there have been ongoing efforts to successfully port the operating system to non-Apple systems. Until this year, those efforts largely remained the reserve of technically minded - and determined - PC users, but the situation changed somewhat in April when the hitherto unknown Psystar began selling PCs with OS X preloaded. Apple has said nothing, which is not unusual, but less typically it does not yet appear to have taken any legal action over Psystar's apparent violation of OS X's terms and conditions.
