iPhone goes Latin 11:34AM, Thursday 8th May 2008
Latin America's leading mobile phone carrier has announced that it has struck a deal to take the iPhone to more than a dozen countries later this year.

America Movil plans to offer the Apple smartphone in all 16 countries where it currently has almost 160 million subscribers.

The company refused to add any more to the brief press release announcing the deal, which Apple confirmed.

"We're excited to be working with America Movil to bring the iPhone to Latin America later this year, and we can't wait to get this revolutionary phone in the hands of even more people around the world," said spokeswoman Natalie Kerris.

Within the space of a week, as many as 27 countries have been added to the six where the iPhone is or will be sold. Canada was first, joining the US, UK, Austria, France, Germany and Ireland last week; then Vodafone announced that it had bagged the contract for Australia, the Czech Republic, Egypt, Greece, Italy, India, Portugal, New Zealand, South Africa and Turkey.
