UPDATED: Apple confirms Belfast store 8:31AM, Monday 11th February 2008
Apple has confirmed that it is opening a retail store in Belfast, its first in Ireland.

The company has started hiring for the Victoria Square outlet, one of six stores that are due to open this year. It is also hiring in Milton Keynes, Cambridge, Liverpool, Brighton and Reading.

So far Apple has opened 13 stores in the UK, since the first, on London's Regent Street, unlocked its doors in November 2004.

UPDATE: Apple has also begun hiring for its first German and Swiss stores, to be located in Munich, Geneva and Zurich. Currently Apple has just one outlet in mainland Europe, in the Italian capital, Rome.
