The previous version of Google's mobile search split your searches into Web, Images, Local listings and Mobile Web, which searched pages formatted specifically for mobile phones. With the new version, users no longer have to specify their search type.
Instead, the updated search engine, which you can access by pointing your phone's browser at www.google.co.uk/m,

Google has also changed the way Local search works. This search option give you results about businesses and services in your current area. The service now remembers any recent search locations so you can select locations from a drop-down box instead of having to re-type the postcodes.
According to Steve Cheng, Google Mobile Search's Product Manager, "Our goal is to make the Google search experience even more useful and relevant for users on the go."
Google's mobile search service is just one of the mobile phone-compatible services Google offers, which also include Google Maps, Gmail and Google News. You can find details of all of Google's mobile services at www.google.com/mobile.
