Softpress unveils Freeway 5 9:04AM, Tuesday 15th January 2008
UK developer Softpress has released a public beta of Freeway 5, it's design-oriented website creation application.

Freeway's Pro and Express versions enable anyone to create standards-compliant, accessible websites without the ever having to write a single line of code. Instead pages are drawn much as they would be in desktop publishing software or a layout application such as iWork's Pages.

In 2005, Version 4 introduced support for authoring CSS-based sites; Freeway 5 takes that a stage further with improved support for CSS layout and list-based CSS

menus. It also adds support for integrating Google Maps into Web pages and for JavaScript effects such as sliding text and provides inline accessibility checking. Also new is the ability to design and generate Blogger templates.

Improvements over version 4 include new graphic effects, iPhoto importing, improved inflow and hierarchical layout, email address obfuscation and Internet Explorer compatibility.

The Freeway 5 Express and Pro betas are available from softpress.com.

Anyone purchasing Freeway 4 after 1 January 2008 will receive a free download upgrade to the new version when it is ready and from 14 January 2008 until Freeway 5 is released, the price of full download copies of Freeway 4 (including a free upgrade to Freeway 5) will be reduced to £100 for the Pro version and and £35 for Express.
