One in three Americans wants a Mac 11:16AM, Tuesday 3rd July 2007
Almost one in three Americans who are planning to buy a new laptop want a Mac. A survey by the ChangeWave Alliance found that of the 3,881 people surveyed who intend to buy within the next 90 days, 28% will opt for a portable from Apple's MacBook ranges.

That's an increase of nine percentage points since the last survey in March. And a similar trend has emerged amongst those who want a new desktop computer: 22% said they will opt for a Mac.

The reason for this "astonishing" increase is two-fold, according to Paul Carton, research director of the ChangeWave Alliance.

"First and foremost, all of the advance publicity surrounding the release of the Apple iPhone is concurrently having a 'halo effect' on Apple computer sales,' he said. "But another likely contributor is the coming new release of Apple's highly anticipated Leopard operating system for Macs."
