The news and rumours website reports that the "radically redesigned' desktops will sport the brushed aluminium enclosure that some expected to see unveiled this month at the company's Worldwide Developers Conference.
That being a conference for developers, not consumers, Apple CEO concentrated instead on the new features in OS X 10.5 Leopard. If this report is accurate, then the new iMacs will ship ahead of Leopard's

AppleInsider adds that that "slimmer and sleeker" redesign, which would be the third overhaul of the popular computer since its original all-in-one design revitalised Apple, will see the end of the 17in model, leaving just the 20in and 24in options. Together with the rumoured demise of the Mac mini, that would leave Apple with no desktop machine selling for less than £999. That alone casts some doubt on the validity of at least one rumour.
If a new iMac is unveiled, it will be its fourth different incarnation, starting with the revolutionary all-in-one introduced in 1997, through 2002's 'desk lamp' model that was more admired than purchased, through to the current, elegant upright 'where did the computer go?' version.
