The new beta adds support for keyboard backlighting on MacBook Pros and Apple Remote pairing. It includes updated graphic drivers, improvements to the driver installer and international keyboard support, localisation fixes and updated Windows Help.
Existing Boot Camp installations require the revised Boot Camp Assistant software and new Mac drivers, both supplied with the new beta, before they can be updated to the new version.
Boot Camp 1.3 beta is a free download from apple.com/macosx/bootcamp.

The finished Boot Camp will be included in OS X 10.5 Leopard when it is released in October. There is some support for the idea that Leopard will include virtualisation software, which unlike Boot Camp, enables Windows and Windows applications to be run within OS X, rather than instead of it.
Currently that function is performed by Parallels Desktop for Mac. Version 3 ships today, introducing 50 new features, including SmartSelect that lets users open any file from Windows or OS X with any program from either OS and Parallels Explorer for accessing a Windows system without launching Windows. It also provides support for DirectX and OpenGL 3D graphics to enable almost all PC games to run.
Parallels Desktop 3.0 for Mac costs £44.04 (ex. VAT) or £27.52 to upgrade from a previous version.
