Leopard delay leaves room for Tiger.10 12:11PM, Wednesday 23rd May 2007
The delayed release date for Leopard has given Apple time to squeeze in another update for the current Tiger version of its Mac operating system.

A historical curiosity, 10.4.10 will be the first point-ten OS X update that Apple has released. Panther reached 10.3.9 shortly before Tiger was released, at which point Apple issued no further patches save the occasional essential security update.

Leopard had been scheduled for release by the end of June, but the company's iPhone development efforts meant that

it could not do justice to the computer OS and its release was delayed until October.

The 10.4.10 update has been sent to developers and is said to include fixes for upwards of 50 components, most notably disc recording mass storage and AirPort wireless support. JavaScript is also mentioned in Web despatches.

Apple confirmed earlier this month that Leopard is 'feature complete' and a beta version will be given to attendees at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June. What we do not yet know is what these features will comprise, apart from those that CEO Steve Jobs previewed nine months ago.
