Universal unearths DRM-free Lost Tunes 2:16PM, Wednesday 30th July 2008
Universal Music has launched its own online music store, offering a selection of albums many of which are not available from any other digital music service.

From the 602 titles on sale, 130 are rarities exclusive to Lost Tunes, but all have been "handpicked" by the store's staff.

We wanted Lost Tunes to replicate the experience of going to a favourite local record shop where browsing and discovering music is a real pleasure and an adventure," said Azi Eftekhari, head of Digital and Media for Universal Music Catalogue. "We only include music that we love."

All the files are DRM-free MP3s, encoded at 320Kbps, which is as high as the format will allow. It also means the files will play on just about any computer or portable player.

Individual tracks are priced at £0.99 with albums costing from £5.99.
