Yet the prospect of using Teletext is no less irksome, so put down the remote and pick up your iPhone instead. The above site displays the programme run-down for the essential Freeview stations plus a few of Sky's main channels, though not the plus-one offerings from Channel Four.
Channel hopping invariably leads to disappointment and bizarrely often back to the channel where you first started, but the handy Now and Next summary will put a stop to that. Channels can also be browsed individually to see the full timetable, enabling you to plan a whole evening in front of the box.
However, the guide does leave room for improvement - it doesn't give programme synopses, for example. It's all well and good being able to check what time Buzzcocks is on but there's no way of knowing whether the guests are worth rushing home for. Nonetheless, it's still a handy app to have at your beck and call.
