Mac OS X Leopard Pocket Guide   [MacUser]
COMPANY: O'Reilly PRICE: £6.29(RRP £8.99)
RATING: ISSUE: 24 3  DATE: Jan 08

Despite the title, you'd need a pretty deep pocket to carry this guide around. Though the format is too small for tips to sit in the page margin, they're still clearly highlighted in main text so you don't skim over vital information.

Though it starts with a guide to Leopard's new features, this isn't the best option for an absolute beginner. Don't expect a discussion of alternatives to applications, while some bundled applications - such as Font Book - aren't explained in any useful depth. It works better to jog the memory of an existing Mac user, leaving those unfamiliar with .Mac services able to configure an iDisk, but having to infer its purpose for themselves.

Throughout the book are simple question-and-answer sections covering common scenarios, such as finding a MAC address, and thankfully they're indexed to save flicking through the guide. So for the space afforded to it, the guide is a useful reference for existing Mac users.
