XtremeMac Tango   [MacUser]
COMPANY: Xttrememac PRICE: £105(£89 ex VAT) from mobilefun.co.uk
RATING: ISSUE: 23 1  DATE: Jan 07

Of the all-in-one speaker systems here, the XtremeMac Tango setup is by far the biggest, measuring a whopping 254mm deep. This allows it to fit in a 4in driver to take care of bass, complementing two 2.5in mid-range and two 1in tweeters.

The mid range is a little poorly-served, but the sound is generally very good. The quality's not quite on a par with the Klipsch, but it's seriously good considering the price. By default, it's trying far too hard with the bass - literally shaking the case and producing an unpleasant buzzing - but this is easily resolved by clicking the bass down using the remote control. You do have to be almost directly in front of the speakers for the best sound.

The styling appears to owe much to Apple's own iPod Hi-Fi, but the finish isn't quite as slick; it looks better in the pictures. It boasts S-Video out for connecting to a television, and some nice touches such as fade in and out when powered up and down.

We can highly recommend the XtremeMac Tango, it's superb value for money.
