Net Applications’ latest Market Share figures show that in September 2008 Macs accounted for 8.23% of of all web browsing. That’s an increase of 28.6% over the previous 12 months and reflects the increase in Mac sales of more than 40% over the same period.
The Mac’s gain is at Windows’ expense, with Linux also enjoying increased popularity, rising from 0.49% a year ago to 0.91%.
Apple’s mobile devices, the iPhone and iPod touch, which dominate mobile browsing data, have a 0.32% share of the whole web.
As for browsers, the trend of recent years continues, with Internet Explorer declining in popularity at the expense of Firefox and to a much lesser extent Safari.
Meanwhile Google continues to increase its share of the search market, now closing on 80% despite the ongoing efforts of Microsoft.
