Acquisition uses the Gnutella file sharing protocol, although it does also offer very basic BitTorrent handling as well. This application is widely hailed as the best P2P client around on any platform, and it's a joy to use compared with many others. The interface is clean and obvious. Indeed, the developers even claim, quite believably, that Apple has borrowed interface ideas from it.
It integrates well with iTunes to the point of putting 'acquired' audio in its own playlist and pointing out items you already have. It offers recommendations of new artists, and you can preview files as they download, pausing iTunes as you go. The P2P world has more than its fair share of unpleasant content, so the Adult Content filter is a welcome item in its Preferences window. It also filters junk from known file spammers and lets you set up your own filters. For Gnutella sharing, this is the business.
