This site has an impressive pedigree, and has been a trusted resource for Mac users for many years. Few sites can compete with the total breadth of content offered by ResExcellence. As well as a large selection of icons, it hosts skins for iTunes, alternative cursors, boot panels and much more.

Judged solely on its appeal as an icon site, however, ResExcellence is out-classed by everything else here. Most of the icons can be found elsewhere, with InterfaceLIFT in particular showcasing a very similar range. The icon categories are very broad, making it difficult to track down specific examples. It does have a search facility, but its results can be disappointing.

The quality of the designs leaves a lot to be desired, too. Although there are occasional oases of talent scattered throughout, a high proportion of the icons on this site are designed by amateurs. Best give this one a miss if you're only after icons.
