DataLifeline is a provider of NovaStor's well-regarded backup solution in the UK, and supports accounts varying from 200MB through to 30GB of storage. The software is easy to set up and there's a time-limited trial available if you want to try out the service before you pay for it. Pricing ranges from an affordable £100 per year, through to an expensive £3,795 for a full 30GB backup.

Not only is all data encrypted and compressed before it's sent, but the software uses a system called 'smart patching', which allows it to compare two versions of the same file and change only the bytes that have been amended, rather than resending the whole file - something that can significantly reduce backup times; a bonus with any online backup service.

However, it's let down by price: at the low end, its 500MB service is more expensive than most of the ones on offer in this test, while at the high-end its cost per gigabyte is second highest.
