Digital photo frames

[PC Pro]

In a world where smartphones, HDTVs and ultraportable laptops grab many of the headlines, you may be surprised to hear that digital photo frames are currently among the biggest-selling electrical products.

If you think about it, however, it's easy to see why. The ability to have a selection of your favourite holiday and family snaps permanently on display in the living room is fantastically convenient. It's far better than having to gather your relatives around the PC to show off your latest shots.

To capitalise on this burgeoning market, manufacturers have launched a baffling array of digital photo frames, some with surprising features. MP3 playback, complicated slideshow transitions, Bluetooth connectivity and video playback are among the more unusual extras we've seen in the frames on test this month.

They're also available in a diverse range of styles: some feature plain black surrounds, others come with interchangeable fascias and some even have wood-effect panelling or stylish glass borders.

We've examined a range of frames in this month's Labs to help you find a product to suit your budget and, more importantly, your decor. While 7in frames are predominant, smaller and larger models are available - from enormous 15in frames to 1.5in keyrings that offer the ultimate in portability. Whatever you choose, quality, price, features and looks will be your prime concerns, so read on and take your pick.
