It's been a bumper year for games. DirectX 10 might not have offered everything we were promised, but the latest crop of consoles has meant a steady stream of incredible-looking, engrossing games in every imaginable category. Here's our pick of the very best.
Our pick of the bunch is the superb Splinter Cell: Double Agent. The storyline alone is a compelling reason to play SC:DA into the bleary-eyed small hours. The superb voice-acting is a cut above the rest as well, and it all adds up to a brilliant cinematic experience. The graphics are little short of spectacular, while objects in the world around you flutter in the breeze and react realistically when you knock them over. If you're after a pumped up experience involving chain guns and monsters, you should look elsewhere.
