How to use mobile broadband in busines
Virgin Mobile Broadband
Virgin is partnering with T-Mobile to provide a mobile broadband service, and it’s pitching its service at home users rather than businesses – as taglines such as “Honey, we shrunk the internet” give away.
Its main appeal will be to existing users of Virgin Media’s cable service, as they can sign up to mobile broadband for just £5 inc VAT a month. The two main caveats are that data usage is restricted to 1GB per month and you have to pay £25 for the USB modem. However, the contract is a reasonable 12 months long.
Non-Virgin customers will have to pay £15 a month for a 3GB data allowance, on an 18-month contract.
Virgin uses a Huawei E160 modem stick, which includes a hidden aerial socket so you can boost reception and a microSD slot to turn the dongle into a removable storage drive.
However, this is the only obvious advantage Virgin’s package holds over the T-Mobile alternative, which costs the same (ignoring the three-month, introductory £10-a-month price) and includes unlimited access to T-Mobile’s Wi-Fi hotspots.
